There Is No Hope of Doing Perfect Research

Research - Introduction

Research Hope

Griffiths in her book Educational Research for Social Justice: Getting off the Fence clarifies that there is no hope of doing perfect research in academia (Educational Research 97). By suggesting this author agrees that perfect research is not for the academia as it cannot always produce social justice. The author clarifies that there is a need to provide social justice in education. This social justice implies working for producing positive change in the society. It is very difficult to produce such favorable change as it is not known as to how our actions as teachers contribute to such effects. Accordingly, the author goes into much detail to establish the principles and attitudes that need to be adopted to bring about positive change in the academic environment and the society surrounding it.

Hope for Doing Perfect Research

The author clarifies that the need for providing social justice in education is imperative. Accordingly, the author develops a case for providing such social justice in education. Therefore, the author clarifies that there is the need to include and incorporate social justice in all educational research. This can be done through taking sides and implementing change. Still, she clarifies that there will be uncertainty in education. Consequently, the educational researchers need to pay heed to providing such justice in their educational endeavors. This justice will also come through better knowledge. Then, she outlines ten detailed principles for providing such social justice in education. The latter one's of which also include the reflexivity principle for educational research. The very topic of this essay of not being perfect in the academia is the principle 9. This principle states that we will have to do with less in our educational goals as perfect research will not be possible.

Other principles also show that radical change could be brought with educational research. Yet, another principle states that these social justice goals will be met by doing collaboration with other academics and colleagues. Still, there are numerous aspects of teaching and doing educational research that need to be considered. For example, it is clear that social justice also requires that the teachers do not engage in physical abuse and violence of students in the class.

Research - Conclusion

It is therefore turned out that, according to Griffiths, social justice is possible to be provided in education. Such social justice requires that the teachers and educational researchers adopt certain principles of conduct so that positive social change could be achieved. The author also clarifies that it is not possible to conduct perfect educational research. Accordingly, the teachers, researchers and academics will have to suffice with less on their goals of social justice. Yet, it is clear that there are certain ways in which such social change can be brought very easily. Therefore, the researchers need to pay heed to the principles given by the author to understand and review their own conduct with respect to achieving social justice.

Still, there are certain considerations which are purely common sense and do not require the educational researchers and teachers to understand the delineated principles. For example, it is clear that no academic person could achieve social justice by subjecting students to physical abuse. This shows the common sense way for the academics to implement and bring about social justice in the world of education.
